This Technology Makes Tilt Scrolling Easier on Your Phone and Smartwatch
HOUSTON, July 9, 2019 -- INNOVENTIONS, Inc. has been awarded a 10th US Patent (US10,346,022) for its RotoView "tilt-to-scroll" technology for mobile displays. The new patent, "Tilt-Based Scrolling with Baseline Update for Proportional and Dynamic Modes," shows how RotoView automatically selects the best scrolling mode based upon the screen magnification ratio, as well as other parameters. Baseline updates eliminate non-responsive tilt ranges when the scrolling reaches the edge of the display. The technology provides the user with a better experience by allowing fast and precise scrolling of smartphone and smartwatch displays, using one hand.
"More and more developers are adding tilt scrolling to mobile devices and apps. This enhances the user experience by sharing more immersive views of the world around us," said Dr. David Y. Feinstein, president and CTO of INNOVENTIONS. "RotoView technology is perfect for tilt-based virtual reality navigation, or scrolling 360-degree panoramic photos and videos, and any other application where the user navigates magnified scenery in all directions."
RotoView is the original tilt-to-scroll technology for mobile displays, with the first RotoView patent family cited as prior art in over 500 US patents. RotoView apps, including RotoView Photo Viewer and RotoView PDF Reader, implement the technology disclosed in the new patent to efficiently scroll or pan large images and documents. It is easy to implement in mobile devices that use gyroscope and accelerometer sensors. The technology has also been adapted to improve smartwatch user interfaces, where the small screen sizes pose interface challenges.
INNOVENTIONS' RotoView technology portfolio now includes 10 US patents, and extensive API software for Android and iOS developers. Our ongoing patent applications cover additional technologies for smartwatch user interfaces. INNOVENTIONS is seeking strategic partnerships with major companies to expedite development and deployment of the technology.
